An association in memory of Hugues.
« We want to create an association in memory of Hugues, to keep his impact on the world alive and to come together as friends and family to perpetuate his memory by funding the causes and actions he cared about. »
Hugues
Hugues Charnallet passed away at the age of 25. Les Amis de Hugues Charnallet was created by his family and loved ones to honor his memory through humanitarian action — saving lives and helping the most disadvantaged. We began by putting in our own money, without knowing what it would become — certain only that this loss had to be turned into something.
Since our founding, we have focused on sickle cell disease — the world's most common genetic disease, affecting 20 million people (80 % in Sub-Saharan Africa) and yet dramatically under-funded. For 40 € per year, a child can be treated. We currently treat more than 300 children in Senegal and Burkina Faso.
The Charnallet family
The association was founded by Hugues's family — his mother Brigitte, his father Hervé, his sister Louise — and his friend Paul Duan, with the support of Pr. Jean-Benoît Arlet, who had been Hugues's doctor. Together they wanted to give lasting form to his commitment to justice, solidarity and public-interest causes.
We chose the format of a French "loi 1901" association for its flexibility and the ability to receive tax-deductible donations. Our long-term ambition is to reach the threshold needed to create a Hugues Charnallet Foundation.
Board & council
All members are volunteers. No one is paid, which guarantees that every euro donated goes directly to treating the children.
