In Ouagadougou, a celebration for the children

For World Sickle Cell Day, generic treatment finally reached Burkina Faso.

On 25 June, we held the first Friends of Hugues Charnallet day in Ouagadougou: a celebration for children with sickle cell disease, with a snack, balloons and therapeutic-education workshops. We wanted the handover of treatment to also be a moment of sharing and joy — the families and caregivers did not want to leave.

Thanks to you, 50 children are now treated in Burkina Faso. Behind every box of medicine is a child who smiles again.

Our mission

The world's most common genetic disease — and the least funded.

20 million people affected, 80 % of them in Sub-Saharan Africa. A child dies of it every five minutes. Yet a treatment costing 40 € a year raises life expectancy from 5 to 50 years.

Fund treatment

We buy generic hydroxyurea and cover the cost of treatment for disadvantaged children through our partner hospitals. 40 € covers one year per child.

Local partnerships

We rely on a network of hospitals and local associations that select the children, handle medical follow-up and distribute the treatment.

100% of donations reach the children

Our overhead is close to zero: every member is a volunteer, and we rely on modern digital tools to streamline patient follow-up and the running of the association.

100% of donations go directly to treating the children. The entire team — doctors, pharmacists, volunteers — receives no compensation.
